CSU Modular Storage Drawers

The CSU Modular Drawers are the culmination of over a year’s pursuit for an efficient, versatile storage solution. Inspired by the unexpected utility of an empty filament spool holder, I developed this cantilevered design. Originally conceived for a closet organization project, the drawers’ potential extended far beyond that. Their modularity, combined with the option for standalone use, makes them adaptable to various spaces and needs. The 9.37″ x 7.8″ top surface of a standalone unit provides additional storage, while the lid protects contents from dust. Reaching a functional height of 33 inches, these drawers offer maximum storage efficiency without compromising floor space.

Modular drawers are an excellent choice for closets due to their versatility and practicality. They allow you to customize your closet space according to your needs. You can mix and match different drawer sizes and configurations to create a personalized storage solution that accommodates your specific items, such as clothing, accessories, or valuables. By utilizing vertical space and different drawer heights, you can optimize storage capacity and keep your belongings organized.

As storage needs change over time, modular drawers provide the flexibility to adapt. You can easily reconfigure or add new drawers to accommodate different items or evolving organizational preferences. Modular drawers help keep your closet tidy and well-organized. With dedicated drawers, you can separate and categorize your belongings effectively, making it easier to locate and retrieve items. This systematic approach saves time and eliminates the frustration of rummaging through cluttered drawers.

This model was designed using the Chamber Plug Interlock (CPI) technique, a practical and effective 3D modeling technique designed to enhance the strength and stability of larger models, such as drawers and trays. By incorporating interlocking sections that fit snugly together, this method allows for solid connections between parts. The use of plugs at the joints not only secures these connections, but also distributes stress evenly throughout the model, significantly improving its structural integrity.
